Toile

Toile is a fabric, from the French word meaning "linen cloth" or "canvas", particularly cloth or canvas for painting on. The word "toile" can refer to the fabric itself, a test garment (generally) sewn from the same material, or a type of repeated surface decoration (traditionally) printed on the same fabric. The term entered the English language around the 12th century. (source Wikipedia)

Toile is a women clothing store in Fishtown. They offer cutting edge designer clothing for the adventurous women. Toile has been located at this workshop since the Winter of 2013.
It was their window that caught my eye on a snowy day in February.

I was waiting for one old movie to end so I could see the next one. I started to fiddle with the my camera's settings while I waited. It then popped into my mind just how big is that hole that closed down the intersection of Frankford Ave and Columbus Blvd. It was a nice day and so I took my camera for a walk.

I met Joe on Girard Ave. We talked a bit about our guitars. He has a nice Martin.

I snapped this before traffic came and nearly blocked the trolley from turning. It caught my eye.

This hole is around 25 ft deep. It's enclosed by pile driven beams to prevent the ground from caving in. I have no idea how deep the water is that forms a pool.

This happened on Allen at Sarah Street.

Oh yea. Well just because the Spirit and the Star ignored this mural doesn't mean it doesn't convey the spirit of Fishtown.

Front and Norris St: I met Kenny who introduced himself as the owner of the "Five Sisters." We talked about the garden and the changing neighborhood. He even offered me a bottle of cold water. He's trying to save the mural and some of the smaller patches.

The oceans-shaper of the world's surface-creator(?) of climate, and cradle of life-are unbelievably large.

Memorial Day

Fishtown: May 25, 2015

The entrance to the memorial was fenced off denying entry from the sidewalk. Heavy debris lay close to the same ground as the monument. The new house construction opened small pits and unstable ground. A new flag was raised to half-mast. Two small red, white and blue reefs adorn the grounds.

       

The gathering at Palmer Cemetery was a modest crowd of people. People sincere to this day of remembrance.

Literary Honors

The Caption

A movie caption is something we all read. It's the explanatory comment that can peak our interest or lose our interest in a film or TV show. These caption mainly go to the extreme boundaries of a concise written statement. They tend to be functional at best and...and functional at best.
There, however, are those rare creative captions that are note worthy. Captions written for 4-star movies, 0-star movies and TV shows that are just fun to read.

Gun Crazy, starring Peggy Cummins, John Dall, (1949), 4-Stars, 
Film Noir, cult classic about a firearms-obsessed couple on a crime spree. He's a timorous, emotionally disturbed World War II vetern, while she's a carnival sharpshooter who is equally disturbed, but a lot smarter, and hence a lot more dangerous. (Crime Drama, 87 Mins.)

Bait, starring Xaver Samuel, Sharni Vinson, (2011), 0-Stars,

A mercenary is a double threat---he steals the secret of creating earthquakes, and is an unwitting plague carrier. (Action/Adventure, 60 Mins.)

It makes me wonder if there is some form of industry/writer group that gives recognition to the person/people who write such memorable captions. Any way...what a way to enhance your TV viewing pleasure.
