Memorial Day

A day of reverence and remembrance

Memorial  Day services were held at two locations in Fishtown to commemorate the fallen American Soldier and with honor to those who served.

Historic Palmer Cemetery, originally known as the Kensington Burial Grounds, have veterans of every war buried here, beginning with the American Revolutionary War. There are markers for veterans of the American Civil War, World War I, World War II, the Korean War and the Vietnam War.
The Elm Tree Post No 88 American Legion serves as the honor guard and has held this service for many decades in Fishtown.











The Charles Glenn 3rd USMC Memorial  the first of it’s kind dedicated to the Men and Women who served in Vietnam was officially dedicated on Veterans Day, November 11, 1967. A ceremony has been held at the Glenn site on Memorial Day with the Philadelphia Vietnam Veterans Memorial Society providing an Honor Guard. The Philadelphia Police Fire Pipes Drums have provided their services with playing music. Wreaths are laid by families, friends and community groups every Memorial Day to honor and remember.

Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Arts Festival

Thousands of people from Kensington, Fishtown, Port Richmond and the surrounding neighborhoods gathered to watch the 2017 Kensington Kinetic Sculpture Derby & Trenton Avenue Arts Festival which took place in East Kensington and Fishtown. The New Kensington Community Development Corporation (NKCDC) and the East Kensington Neighbors Association (EKNA) are the organizers of this annual festival. The Philadelphia Federal Credit Union sponsored this event.
